Russian Air on my Edison A150

With justice - that's fine reproduction, with particularly good speed stability, something not to be taken for granted in vintage machines.

Nice recording. You can't beat an Edison disk motor for silence and steadiness.

I am curious to know what types of sound equipment that people use for recording their records. Waving a video camera around a phonograph does not cut it. I tried using both dynamic and condenser mikes plugged into a laptop computer, but did not like the results -- background hiss and poor impedance match caused poor fidelity. Integrated sound cards aren't that good. Strange to say, I finally achieved great results buying an inexpensive iRig condenser microphone for my Apple iPhone 4s. I mount the microphone on a stand in front of the phonograph horn to minimize handling noises. To trim any excess from the beginning or end of the recording, I use freeware software called Audacity. I do not use any post-processing to "enhance" the sound; I can live with a bit of hiss to preserve the original ambiance.

I have two set ups a portable one using a laptop IBMT30 with a condenser mike and a mike stand for the acoustic machines and a semi permanent setup using an older Dell laptop using a Garrard TT with cartridges set up for 78's and Diamond discs for recording. I also use Audacity with good results. I also minimize the processing to retain the most music. I too like listening to them in their raw state on the machines. I can also play them on my main system and tweak them with a pioneer 9400 EQ it cuts the unwanted unused frequencies. The Edison a150 machine does play quite well. Gotta love this stuff to appreciate it
