Lack of space, money and the inevitable reaction from my beloved are the only things preventing me from bidding.
Your beloved will love it when you show how unique, rare and high quality this is. Who can pass up anything this good?It won't be a lot of money and as for space, well, you can always shuffle things around a bit! ;)

I visited a collector recently who has 200 machines in a small terraced house. It can be done.

The listing ended, only to re-appear with a £300 starting price which has already been bid.

The machine is now suddenly "very rare", which is true, and the revised description states that it was manufactured by George Henry Bassanophone    .

One might almost suppose that the seller has been seeking enlightenment from this forum, which is of course always ready to educate and inform!

She has many fine qualities, but a love of gramophones isn't one of them. I would like a cabinet machine here one day, but there genuinely is only room for one. The good news is that I've got a house in France with plenty of room, at the moment the only inhabitant is a HMV 145. There is room for a few more, shame is I don't get there often enough.

I don't blame them and they've been vindicated. The internet is a wonderful thing for gaining instant information. Everything that's posted here is in the public domain and you can't blame someone for being curious about something they're selling.

Mr G H Bassanophone also offered a table grand apparently http://www.the-saleroom.com/fr-fr/aucti ... t-11645542.

It looks to have been a serious piece of kit, but are those short cabriole legs as Mr Bassanophone intended?

I notice they are not showing the lid which has possibly serious damage.

It appears to have been quite a fine quality piece, odd proportions and all.

The thing that looks odd to me is that they don't have a piano hinge on the lid. Everything else about them looks so solid, but those hinges don't look up to the task.

I need to make the space first, then earn some money, then engage in protracted and delicate negotiations.
