Question about my Edison Standard

Hi there! I just found this forum, and would love to hear anybody's suggestions on my issue.... I recently received an Edison Standard Model A with Model C reproducer. It's in great condition cosmetically. The only issue seems to be volume. I have a couple of other phonographs (Edison LU-37 and a Victrola), and both seem to be MUCH louder than the Standard. I can barely hear the music over the sound of the motor (and the motor isn't overly loud). Any suggestions as to what it could be? Are these units just MUCH quieter than disc players? Maybe I need to have my reproducer repaired?

If I had to take a guess, your Model C probably needs to be rebuilt. The gaskets have probably hardened which will reduce the volume.

Looking at your pictures, your stylus doesn't look right. It should be clear and button shaped.

Thanks! Any suggestions on the best place to have the reproducer rebuilt and/or buy a new stylus?

Replacements of gaskets, making sure the stylus is clean and not worn. The C stylus looks like a door knob, and if looked at under magnification, should be spherical no flat spots on the surface that contacts the record. The swivel needs to move freely back and fourth. Gaskets should be replaced, however I do not think any available gaskets are as soft as the original ones were when new, as they were a soft, natural rubber. When screwing the retaining ring back when rebuilding these the bezel is screwed down,until it does not leak and no more, as it will no longer be sensitive in volume, or bass.

I thought that linkage looked familiar...

As I suggested on the Online Edison Board, the linkage looks like it has been replaced with wire that's too heavy.
