I picked up this guy for $25 because the case is in very good shape. Can anyone help me with the model? Also, it needs a fibre drive gear (The existing one is on pieces ha), does anyone know of any sellers that I can buy this from?
This will be my first complete disassemble and cleaning of a windup, and I'm really looking forward to it. I don't fear the springs
Columbia Favorite , I agree . Fiber gear? Not that I've ever seen. I've got a spare period Columbia motor that would meet your needs. I would try to figure out what gears aren't meshing on your motor before you invest in a new motor...it looks complete to me

You are right in your terminology-- The fiber gear is toast-- Ron Sitko sells the replacement gears for a decent price--- However- Ron closes up shop between Thanksgiving and New Years every year to give himself a break-- The gear presses on to the knurled shoulder above the bevel gear-
Actually what you have is an early Columbia Jewel from about 1913. It is the smaller version of the Favorite. The Favorite has a three spring motor, and this one has 2 springs. The Favorite with the offset tone arm has the earlier one piece nickel plated brass arm, not the 2 piece pot metal arm. The early Jewel had the blued steel bed plate, whereas the later one had the hinged wood motor board. The later Favorite was rectangular, and the 2 piece arm was straight behind the turn table, not off to the side. As stated before, Ron Sitko has the correct fiber gear. Actually, it's Teflon, much stronger than the original fiber gear. To mount the gear, first make sure the springs are wound down. Clean the top of the brass gear where the fiber gear goes on to. Place the gear on and make sure the little notch fits onto the fiber gear. Carefully turn the spindle to make sure the gear meshes. The reason you do this is because its easy to have the gear on backwards, and is not forgiving. If the gear is on backwards, take the gear off and turn it the opposite way. Mark the gear and remove. Mix 5 min. epoxy carefully onto the top of the brass gear. Mount the fiber gear in place and test the mesh. When the mesh is good, press the fiber gear all the way down and wipe off the excess epoxy. Let dry and cure for 24 hours, and you will have a lifetime repair. I learned how to apply these fiber gears from trial and error, and when done correctly, your machine will run smooth and quiet. It looks like on your machine, you will need an elbow, arm and early No. 6 reproducer. I maybe able to help you with the reproducer. You can find the arm and elbow on ebay or George Vollema, a dealer in parts.Good luck with you machine.

Harvey - Thanks for your comments; I have this same machine, and always thought it was a "Favorite". Is the "Jewel" cabinet physically smaller than the "Favorite" ?
Here are some photos of the blued-steel bedplate from mine, as well as the fibre-gear intact (for now). Also, my "Jewel" has the two-piece pot-metal arm, in the corner, with a Columbia #6 (?) soundbox. My machine is completely unrestored.
Wow, thank you for the information Harvey! I was wondering what would keep this gear in place...epoxy sounds like a very good (and proven!) solution. Im happy to say I do have the arm and reproducer but thanks for offering help.
