I loosen the spindle gear set screw. Pull up on the turntable. The turntable with the spindle stuck in it should come out. The spindle gear should fall off. I put the turntable over a slightly opened vise and tap out the spindle. Then I clean up the spindle and turntable hole and make sure it slides in and out. Put the spindle back in the motor casting hole and slide the gear back on underneath. Tighten the set screw. Just don't lose the ball bearing at the bottom of the spindle. Also make sure the spring is wound down before you do this.

But Bob -- that seems like such a sane way to do this! (I may just do it that way on the XI, though, because for some reason I've decided I really like that machine.) Thanks!
