FOR SALE: early Square Top Edison Standard - £500

Post by neilmack »

Very early Edison Standard (serial no. is under 1000). It has an early reproducer (I thinks it's an Automatic) and no cover over the gears - and never had one, judging by the absence of securing holes for screws. The case has one suitcase clip at either end, as usual on an early example. It's complete, and it works. Cosmetically it decent, but not exceptional - there's no major corrosion, nor significant damage to the case, but there is some loss of gold lining, wear on the paintwork, and dulling of the nickel plate. Considering it's been in Britain since it was new, it's by no means bad!

Included alongside the early reproducer is a modern repro 2-minute reproducer by Keith Badman - which sounds better than the earlier authentic one. The horn is a modern reproduction.

I'm in the UK. I am asking £500. It's nice and compact, so it could be shipped at cost.

Thanks for looking.

Made in June 1898, this is a genuine nineteenth century talking machine.
