Anna Case from Along Broadway

Post by Lenoirstreetguy »

Here's a fun article I scanned from Along Broadway, The Edison Musical Magazine . It's from the May 1920 issue when the Diamond Discs were still riding high in the sales department. Here Miss Case is being sketched by the notable artist James Montgomery Flagg as she swears she really, really really did not sing with the Diamond Disc during the " lights out" portion of a Tone Test recital.

And damned if I didn't run across the portrait done by Flagg of our favourite Edison prima donna ! This was in an old issue of the New Amberola Graphic . Case was actaully pretty good too< with a warm voice and from what we read, a fine stage presence. She was more of a recitalist than an opera star, but there is nothing wrong with that. She's another , like Marie Rappold who would be better known today had they both not been exclusively Edison. Case did a lot of radio work in the twenties and she appears in that very early Vitaphone short, where her voice is shown to great advnatage.
