Silvertone master portable

I recently a couple of weeks ago bought a silvertone off eBay. It has a garford manufacture incorporated motor inside as the it says flyer on the motor I'm guessing this machine dates from 1926-1927 but here is a pic of what the motor looks like i think this motor was made out of cast iron and it has 1 fiber gear.

Correct me if I am wrong, but while this is a Garford motor, they also made motors for Heineman. Garford was a Ohio based company and sold motors to Otto Heineman.

I think this motor can use compatible parts off a Heineman flyer motor.

Yes I do belive your right on that. It was heinamen motor corporation that built these motors and they are usually reall good motors but I can never understand why they went with the fiber gear in this type of motor uhh? Lol well anyway you are right I do belive so thanks man.

They also used fiber gears in their large motors. I suppose they were used to make motors
run quieter.

The only thing I did not like about fiber gears is they made them out of a cardboard material but I know how to make stronger ones. You trace from a piece of cardboard from the orignal fiber gear take the 2 pieces you traced and then use moxy to strengthen them together simple idea I've heard of from my buddy who also collects gramophones. The fiber gears were like a cloth and glue composition according to Eric Reiss book "The Compleat Talking Machine", but like you said they could have used a cardboard material.

I know some Columbia's have fiber gears and I think Victor may have used them in their early bull gears.

My brother was working on making them for Heinemann in a hard neoprene type resin, but caught up with other things with his job and family. I think new ones would be great.

Yeah most of the double springs coulumbia motors in the grafanolas used the fiber gears but yeah I agree with you totally thanks.
