What Did Santa Bring?

Post by HisMastersVoice »

I figured I would start off our yearly tradition of showing off what goodies Santa brought!

I must have been a very good boy this year... Santa brought me a Victor Talking Machine Co. Radiator Cap, and a Pan Electric Toastrite toaster.

The radiator cap with Nipper mascot was quite a surprise. As an antique car collector, you can imagine the excitement of having my 2 favorite hobbies in one! This radiator cap came from the estate of a big time Nipper collector, and was actually photographed for the book "Nipper Collectibles" by Joan & Robin Rolfs and is featured on the back cover as well.

If that weren't enough, I was also surprised with something I have lusted over for quite some time: an Apple Green Toastrite toaster made by the Pan Electric Manufacturing Co. of Cleveland, Ohio, circa 1928. They were made entirely of Onyxide China, and are amongst the most sought-after toasters by collectors today. I installed a NOS element, as the old one was in poor condition with breaks in the nichrome wire and cracked mica.

Way to go Brandon!!. Two very sweet items to join your collection. Years ago I had the orange "Toastrite" that a lady had NOS with box in a cupboard . I wish I had kept it now. Oh well, you can't keep everything.........but you can try.....  .

Congrats again!!!.

I almost forgot.......I got a lump of coal this year. I guess I was not too good this past year..... :?.

Admittedly was not as good as I could have been but certainly didn't expect the broken ankle a week before Christmas. Looking at the bright side, my cast has that plaster smell, just like the core of a Blue Amberol.

Interesting toaster HMV. I too collect toasters because I love shiney deco-chrome stuff. Do you have an Edison Edicraft long "Clam-Shell" toaster in your collection as well? I have one that I may part with that looks "gggggreat" but has an intermitting problem with one side of the clam-shell. Sometimes it will not heat up and sometimes it will. Probably a loose connection in the grid since the clams open and close with a timer control. Really cool looking and very sought after Edison Toaster. If you know toasters they are not at all easy to fine. I have two - one NOS In It's Original (West Orange new Jersey) Thomas Edison box and this one.

I got (myself) a few green things, only temporally related to the holidays.

I couldn't pass up this beautiful 1929 Hamilton Square in green gold fill, with an uncommon (and gorgeous) dial they specially imported from the Swiss dial maker Flueckiger.

And this green HMV 101 from about the same year, I think, is due to arrive in a week or two, from across the great divide. It will enjoy meeting its blue and tan croco siblings, I'm sure.

Not yet, no. I used my Toastmaster this morning since I don't trust myself with an uncontrolled heat source that early in the morning...

I'd love to have one of these. I will PM you.

I was asked to be Santa at the neighborhood grade school. Since I am Santa, I guess I can buy all I want at the next Union show. Ho Ho Ho! Jerry (Santa) Blais
