Victrola Label?

Post by Victrolacollector »

I have some 78's with the Victrola label, Why did some have the Victrola label as opposed to the Victor label? I notice the ones I have are red and purple color labels.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I probably don't need to ask for that  ) but I believe the "Victrola" label was used to denote the "premium" records, which were primarily red seal. There's a bit more history involved with when they started using it and when the changed back to just using "Victor" but I can't recall the details at the moment.

I've never seen a purple (or blue) label Victor with Victrola on it.

Agreed, and there's no reference in the Collector's Guide to Victrola being on anything but the red label.

there's a few...
Collector's Club Pressings (white)
Program Transcriptions (black, long playing)
Special order Pressings (white)
plus some Marketing labels
There's a labeling error mentioned on page 225 that shows "Victrola" on a black scroll label
(there may be other examples)

Sorry, my bad. I was only referring to the "mainstream" black/red/purple/blue labels.
