Re: Mischa Spoliansky - Ich steh' mit Ruth gut [Fox Trot]
A marvelous recording, absolut my stuff....
Recording is September 1928
Paul Aronovici, Karl Emmerling(tp), John Kaiser (tb), Horst Graff, Freddy Wise, Kurt Arlt, Wolf Gradis (cl, sax), Arno Lewitsch, Eugen Berman(vl), Baby Schulvater(bj), Ansco Brunier (bb), Leon Collier(dr)
Sounds like a really cosmopolitan formation.
Most of the Bandmembers are from the Dajos Bela Band of the time.
BUT: Aronovici, John Kaiser, Horst Graff, Freddy Wise, Schulvater and Brunier are also the original cast of the WEINTRAUBS SYNCOPATORS, without Friedrich Hollander on piano.
So, this is quasi the Bela Band with the Weintraubs - GREAT !!
Spoliansky even recorded with Bela in 1929. Unfortunately you seldom
hear such a peppy tune recorded under direction of maestro Bela....
By the way, on an old board, if I remember right, you posted two tunes by the Gabriel Formiggini Band "Hallo, Hallo" and "Was macht der Mayer am Himalaya". Than I found these two tunes, you had put it off from box.net.
Is there a chance to listen to the both tunes again? I´m always looking for recordings by Formiggini....

Well, this one got my toes tapping
Is it my imagination or does it sound like this recording was made in a large hall? Its just the acoustics sound a bit spacious. I have noticed the same thing on my Jack Hylton HMV recording of Happy Feet but not on any other recordings of his. Am I the only one to notice this?

Some of the 1928 Electrolas, and much more of the 1929/30
Electrolas had been recorded in the "Beethoven-Saal/Hall" of the
singing academy in Berlin.
It is a very huge hall in a impressive building.
Even the first prussian democratic national assembly was hold 1848
in the Beethoven-Hall.
Later Electrola Labels bears "recorded at the Beethoven-Hall, Berlin"

Ah, thanks for that information. That would explain it. I believe that the Hylton recording of Happy Feet was made in Berlin...and my guess (given the acoustic characteristics of the recording) was that it was made in that hall.
I am glad...I didn't think that Norman was beginning to add reverb to his transfers

Yes, you´r absolut right, the "Happy Feet" recording by Hylton was made
during one of his annual germany tours - and recorded in the Beethoven Hall...
But also HMV in england prefer halls for their recordings.
Session were done in places like "Small Queen´s Hall" or "Kingsway Hall".

Thanks for the staff info, always good to know who was actually playing.
Kein Problem! Here are the Gabriel Formiggini songs I had posted:
Hallo, Hallo!
Was macht der Maier am Himalaya?
Sag' nicht Du zu mir wenn meine Frau dabei ist

Thanks for the nice posts. I'd really like to know where you guys find this stuff. I find very little good music from the 1925-1930 period around Prague and normally it's pretty expensive compared to American music of the same period and Genre if one does find it. Tips (or duplicates0 appreciated) Thanks!

Don't be frustrated, it's not that I own each of these records. I do also make transfers just to have the music. There is no consistent source for this stuff.
