Victor ad December, 1903.

Post by Lenoirstreetguy »

Meant to post this as my letter to Santa. but I forgot. This is the oldest Victor V ad I've ever seem (from the December '03 Good Housekeeping. ) Note the Concert sound box. I've always fancied one of these early V's, although they say the motors get very noisy. Any of you good folks have ideas on the noise issue?

That's an early Victor D. In advertising, Victor called it a V. I'd love to have one of those machines in my collection.

Most of the motors are noisy but some are not. I remember visiting with an early collector that specialized in motor repair. He said Victor used shims in critical locations to minimize noise. I have an early Vic VI with that motor and it's quiet. I also have a Vic D that sounds like a cement mixer. Jerry

Isn't it amazing the progress from the "trademark" to this in 5 years ?
