Edison A-100 with record cabinet

Post by rgordon939 »

I just picked up a mahogany Edison A-100 with the original record cabinet on the bottom shelf filled with records. This is my third A-100 but the only one with the cabinet. I have never come across one before. I did see one sell on LiveAuction on September 29 for $3750.00. I thought that was high but not sure. Any info and/or comments would be appreciated.

Didn't get home until late last night after all day drive. Infarct it's still in the van. I will get it out today and post some pictures shortly.

3750? that sounds insanely high for an A-100, even with the bottom-shelf cabinet.

$3750 for an A-100???!!! That's beyond insane, especially if it was for the one pictured on the link.

I'd say the guy who bought the $7400.00 record needs an expensive machine to play it on. :ugeek:

The box looks homemade to me. Why would Edison make a record box for the A100 when he had the A200?

The A-100 and A-150 record storage boxes I've seen were aftermarket items, but definitely factory-made. I can't tell about this one from the single photo. Another one of these storage boxes is shown in this thread:

...and even more in this thread:

I finally got around to bringing the machine inside today. I took off the record cabinet from the bottom shelf and wiped it off so I could post a few pictures. I have been doing a little more searching for info about the cabinets and found this information on phono jacks.com website, link attached at end of message. The cabinet on my machine is exactly the same as the one on his machine.

This particular A-100 has an unusual record storage box that I believe is original from the factory. The hardware, construction, green felt record separators for up to 32 diamond discs, wood, veneer and stain nicely match the A-100 cabinet. Dimensions are 13¼" wide by 12¼ high and 13¼ deep. The base of this cabinet which extends to the edge of the cabinet's bottom shelf is held by brass flathead screws. I have found some literature that makes reference to this self-contained storage box designed for the A-100.

A nicely done item. I am thinking they must be fairly uncommon, so congrats.

Wow, that is real nice! The auction pic made it look home made. Send us a pic when you get the whole machine finished!
