Rochester, NY Craigslist - VV-X(?) $35

If I'm wrong about the model, I'm sure I'll be corrected.

I have no room for this, otherwise, I would have it here. ;)

Hopefully someone rescues it from a bad ending.

It's a VV-XI , and the description is puzzling.

Yes, it is. But, it looks to be missing the soundbox for sure.

Thanks for the ID.

And a whole new name for a reproducer "holding cone."

Nonetheless, $35 ain't bad -- even for an XI will a missing reproducer. From what I can see of it, it looks like the finish is in pretty good condition and would clean right up.

It looks very much like my XI-G, with the larger horn doors but before the changes to the front upper corner post carvings. Too bad the serial number isn't given. The finish looks a tad worse than mine was---uneven gloss, light alligatoring, from what I can tell from the bad photos. I recently gave mine a coat of Howard's Feed 'n' Wax and it came up looking nice.

Looks like it may be missing the used needle holder, also the key (?).

Thanks to Fran for posting the craig's list Rochester NY post. I called the owner yesterday and inquired about this victrola. It is indeed a G model VV-XI-
serial #255670. It was not missing the reproducer (Exhibition), but rather the flange for the tone arm, and it was missing the needle cup. The case is in very good condition and should clean-up very nicely. As with all these oldies the nichol plated hardware will need polishing, but they are all in good shape.
Soooooooo.....for 35.00 I couldn't pass it up and will save it from the junk yard. I will rebuild the reproducer and use some Howard's products to restore the shine to the cabinet. The motor (2spring) sounds good but will need some cleaning and lubricating. I will need to get a nichol plated key also. All in all i'm satisfied with the purchase as there was alot of records with it and even some really thick edison's and all kinds of needles and mixed in was a dozen fairly new tungston needles.

Thanks again Fran

Yes Clay I will deffinetly post a Pic when it's cleaned up, so far it's cleaning up good, but I'm only in the early stages of tear down. I have 6 of the
edison disc's, don't know what they are worth, I'll post more on them later, they seem to be in good shape.

Good for you---you scored! You'll enjoy your G, especially after the sound box rebuild.
