Edison A-250 Help

Post by need4art »

Hi All,
Months ago a fellow member posted a Craigslist ad from Detroit featuring an A-250. After months of working with the seller and waiting for it to get here it arrived early this am. A quick look, tells me that this gal will need some work but I think she will turn out fine.

Looking at the pictures posted of Valecnik's great machine I think that the knob on the front door is wrong and that I am missing the key escutcheon as well, though the lock assembly is there and looks unmolested. The knob on Valencnik's machine looks like one that Victor uses. Are there variations of these two parts and if not how the heck am I going to get the escutcheon back in place?
That area looks to be to roughly finished to have come that way.

I am sure that there will be more questions and help needed as I get into the machine
Thx for any assistance in advance.
Abe

Abe,

I believe there were at least two variations of the escutcheon. One that slides into the wood, almost flush mounted as you see in my recent posting and one that's surface mounted and is held in place with two tiny screws. You can see both variations in "Featured Phono no. 5, 58 and the recently posted 97. If yours had the surface mounted escutcheons there should be tiny screw holes visible.

What do you mean by, "if not how the heck am I going to get the escutcheon back in place?" I think the correct one should either slide in or screw on.

Regarding the door pull, as far as I know they are all the same.

Valecnik,
Thx for the help, while the knob looks like a Victor type I think the lower profile and perhaps diameter is different, When I get a chance I will look at the escutcheon up top see what type I need.

I am sure that there will be others questions

Glad to help if I can Abe. A Victor knob would probably work and nobody would notice the difference. The Edison knob is just threaded and screws right into the door so nothing complicated there.
