Removing hardened/dried out grease??

Post by yd328 »

Who ever worked on my Victrola in the past was a slob. It looks like dried out graphite grease all over the motor board and tone arm mount area. Does anyone have any tips on getting this off of the finish without damaging it? I have only tried mild cleaners such as fantastic so far before I jump into anything harsh.

Thanks Gary

Id use turpentine (mineral spirits). It will rip the grease off but wont effect the finish. If it leaves an oily residue, wipe it with a damp cloth with a little soap.
You might also like to try gojo non pumice cleanser on the whole cabinet to remove any other dirt & grime that's accumulated over the years.
Keepin' it real.

Thanks for the reply, I wanted to make sure that I would not ruin the finish with something to strong.
