I have a Victor Model I and it needs a horn. I realize there are two options, but I would really prefer the Morning Glory Horn. This is my first phonograph, I saw a video of one on Youtube and fell in love with the sound! Please post pictures or send them to me at [email protected] Thank you very much!

Re: WANTED: Victor I "Morning Glory Horn"
The Vic I flowered horn came in two variations. The difference is at the small end where it connects to the elbow. The majority of Vic I's take the small elbow while the late Vic I takes the larger elbow. Does your Vic I have an 8" or 10" turntable? Jerry

I actually don't have the player yet. Here's a picture, does this help?

Re: WANTED: Victor I "Morning Glory Horn"
Your machine is the earlier one. It would take the small ended flowered horn. These are very tough to find. They do occasionally pop up on ebay. When they do, prepare to pay some bucks for it. The brass bell horn is easier to find and at least your machine will be complete until you can find the flowered horn.

Thanks Harvey! By chance, is there any way to kind of guess which year this was made? I can't seem to figure that out. Serial #55201.

Interesting if Harvey knows more details but referring to "the Victor Data Book" by Baumbach provides the following about your Vic I
First Shipped June 15, 1905, lowest serial # 2
Last Shipped Sept 14, 1909, highest serial # 63569
After April 15, 1908 the Victor I was equipped with the larger # 17 flower horn
good luck with your quest for a flowered horn.

You can also visit the Victor Victrola page:
http://www.victor-victrola.com/index.html
Find the info for the Victor I, and you can enter your serial number to get an approximate date of manufacture.
Bill
PS: I see that they state that they do not have an "exact correlation" between serial numbers and dates on this model: but you can get an approximate dating based on various features ...

Re: WANTED: Victor I "Morning Glory Horn"
There is also an adapter for the early player and the standard morning glory horn. One is on e-bay now.

Re: WANTED: Victor I "Morning Glory Horn"
Bruce,I should have given more detail. I just had a quick glance of the picture, and that's when I made that statement of being an earlier machine. Bartman, I would suggest you bid on the horn adapter, and look for the slightly larger Victor brass bell horn with a bell 12 ½" or 13 ¾ bell. These are common. To find the brass bell horn with the 9 ½" bell, is also tough. For some reason, those small Victor horns are tough to find. The larger sizes will be too ungainly. The 17" flower horn with the larger elbow size is equally hard to find as the other smaller flowered horn. The next flowered horn with the 19" bell, will be too large for this Victor I, and the little elbow might not be able to support the weight. Just keep checking, and advertising, and you'll eventually find the small Victor horn. I don't know if anyone is reproducing this horn or not.
