Found some 78 rpm center start 16" sound track transcription records pressed by Columbia for a 1930 movie 'ALOHA', produced and copyrighted by Rogell Productions, LTD of Hollywood, California. Have discs for Reel 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and the rev of reel 9 is blank with a large Columbia/musical note logo. Missing the disc with reel 2 & 4. Bummer.
Haven't listened to them yet. Here is some info about the movie:

A neat find. How you can run across the missing ones some day.

Fascinating! - of course these play at 33 ⅓, not 78. I've sent this post to Ron Hutchinson of the Vitaphone Project and he'll check on the status of the film.

Re: 1930 Movie Soundtrack - 'ALOHA'
Originally these were played with a steel needle in a horseshoe magnet style pickup. Modern practice would indicate a 3 mil stylus, or fractionally larger or smaller depending on record wear.uberanalog wrote:What size stylus is used to play these? 3 mil ?
