See how it goes...I should of kept my mouth shut.
Iva, if you are implying that someone here bought it after you posted about it, I would highly doubt that.

Don't you just love threads such as this?? Truth of the matter is...you will get as many different opinions as there are people that will be willing to give them. You were already brave enough to state that your intentions with your purchase is not necessarily financially/economically/profit-driven motivated. You are looking to acquire something that you can not only enjoy yourself, but can also hand down to your children in time. All too often, in this competitive hobby that we share, what is in the heart becomes replaced with greed, and quantity, and dollar signs.
As many of the Forum members have mentioned, continue to educate yourself. For years when I first started collecting, I could barely afford the gasoline that it took to travel to a flea market or an auction. Most of what I bought was a slice of cherry pie or a cup of coffee. But the most important thing that I came away with was the priceless education that cost me only the price of traveling to that market or that auction. Along the way, you will cross paths with those that you can trust, and those that crawl closest to the ground. What may be a treasure to you, can possibly be culled aside, or ridiculed by someone else. You never know...maybe this phonograph fever that is churning inside you now is just the stepping stone to catapult you into another collecting direction. As long as it does not consume you to the point of greed and dishonesty like it has so many others, you should survive just fine. Which now brings me to the Edison home that you have been so seriously considering here. The seller is either inexperienced, or dishonest...period. As long as you proceed with this in mind, I wish you the best of luck. Lastly...if you ever venture away from that beautiful state that you live in and head eastward into the midwest, let me know. I would be willing to let you look over a good selection of quality Edison cylinder machines and possibly let you have one to take home with you.
Doug,
Very well said and offering her a free machine? Tops in my book. I learned from one of those bottom feeders, and it cost me a lot. It was only when I started going to the shows that I really knew what the price should be on a machine.

lol..oh heck..I would hope that wasn't the case.

It's pretty clear not many here would want that "thing". Which makes me want it all the more...hahahah...I kind of go for the underdogs. (just like my cut in half VV100 that just pulls my heart strings and makes me smile when ever I look at the aged beauty)

I'm hoping he pulled it because he went on vacation.
And for the remark of I should of kept my mouth shut doesn't really imply to in here...that been my luck my whole life and I'm guessing some of you know what I'm talking about.

Ya take the time to think about buying it..and when you make up your mind..it's gone..lol

I went to the thrift store looking for records and to my surprise there was a stack of them. :)
I listed the labels that was in the stack in the Music thread if anyone is interested.

Just goes to show me...there MUST be machines around here if there are records.

Hailey I would love to come see your collection. I'm guessing you would be kicking me out the door just so you could eat and sleep...lol
Your offer of a free machine if I did make it that direction is very touching. thank you, but I would probably never get that far.
I'm not interested in selling the vintage things I buy in my life. I'd much rather enjoy them and then in hopes my kids would feel the attachments I had to them and in turn would keep them in their families and so on.
I have never heard of any shows around here. However I've never asked about them either.
I would go to one in a heart beat if it was a days drive away.
