In Memory of Shirley Temple

Post by LadyHawke »

:rose: Hi all!
I was saddened to hear the loss of Shirley Temple Black today. :rose:
I adored her laughter, her bouncy curls and her spirit as a child!!
This was already set up on my dining room table and I just thought in memory of a Lady who made us all smile, I would post these pictures!!
:rose:

The woman singing in the above clip is Alice Faye. That's the woman whose name Archie Bunker used to mumble in his sleep in "All in the Family". It was a surprise to hear of Shirley Temple's death because I thought she died decades ago. To really appreciate her talent, I once saw a talent search done back in the 30's where a movie studio was looking for another little girl who could rival Shirley. It was amazing to see how none of the little girls trying out could come even close to Shirley's talent. Many don't know that Shirley Temple was the first pick to play Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, but she was not available. She was making a movie called The Blue Bird. Like the Wizard, The Blue Bird is a fairy tale with both black & white and color scenes. Bad choice. Everyone knows The Wizard, and nobody remembers Blue Bird.

Here's an oddball Shirley Temple record. Perhaps someone here posted this earlier, but in any case, it's one you won't come across very often.

I looked to see if Shirley ever made any ads for a company like Victor, but couldn't find any. The closest connection I could find was her well-known ad, at least to radio collectors, for Grunow in 1937. The 30's was really the era when the radio was king.

I remember reading in one of the magazines that Tim Gracyk put out that Shirley's movie studio,Twentieth Century-Fox would not permit her to make records. So,the Japanese record is really not by her.edisonplayer
