making a limit loop for an Edison Model C

Any suggestions for making a limit loop for one of these? My first thought was to use a paper clip, but the diamter of the wire is too big. Maybe they make smaller paper clips than what I have...

Some better hardware stores and hobby shops have "music wire" in a wide variety of decimal diamters, usually in 1 foot to 3 foot lengths.

Or, you might contact a piano tuner / technician in your area - they might have some scrap piano string for the asking...

I have lots of music wire, but it is difficult to bend. Do you aneal it first?

Turns out that paper clips come in several sizes and I found some that are the right size.

I guess you could anneal it first, but that is not done when bending the initial "hook" and threading through the hole in the tuning-pin of a piano...

I'm sure the paper-clip will serve, if you found one of suitable diamter.

I use wire leader fishing line. You can find it in most fishing departments.

Original limit loops are actually made of soft brass wire which is soldered in to the body before it is plated. That type of wire is easily available hi hobby shops and better hardware stores. I was advised many years ago to drill new holes next to (the outside) of the old ones because it can be very difficult to accurately drill down the center of the old loop stubs. It is not really noticeable and gives you s slightly wider loop which may help track Indestructibles.

I do use .015" music wire for stylus bar to diaphragm links. It can be bent without annealing but heating it some will make it bend more easily. I use my wife's wire bending pliers which she bought for bead work. They have round tapered jaws and work very well for a variety of small jobs.

I used the paper clip and retaining compound to keep it in place. I shaped with the same sort of pliers mentioned. I have several sizes and find them so handy for doing a nice neat job for cuckoo clock repair and for any sort of loops I need in wire.

The reproducer is back together and sounds great. The owner is thrilled to have it back ao soon.
