Weekend Find: Columbia Grafonola Regent

Post by HisMastersVoice »

Saw this Regent at a local estate sale on Friday and picked it up yesterday. I've never actually seen one in person, they are quite imposing! I decided to put it in the guest room, though I won't be able to have any guests if I put any more machines in there

Wow, that's great!
Your guests might complain that the desk is very uncomfortable, as they keep bumping their knees when typing. ;)

Congrats on a nice purchase! People often criticize this because it doesn't really work as a desk, but it was not supposed to be desk. Columbia never called it a desk. Their term for it was "library table". Yours looks to be in great shape! You have the 1913 model, but mine is the 1909 version with doors over the horn and record cabinet doors on the sides. I also have the Baby Regent with louvers over the horn. It has no record storage except for a shelf below the phonograph.

Congrats on an interesting find, and it looks to be in good condition to boot!

Great find. I have a Regent Jr. Does your machine have identical front and back so you can reverse which end you want access to the turntable?

Yes, the faux drawer pulls are present on both sides. The volume control however, is only on one. So if you had it flipped the other way, you'd have to reach behind it to adjust the louvers. You'd also have to wind it backwards (sort of).
