Vic II Humpback Parts Compatibility
I just picked up a Vic II "Humpback" cabinet, but it doesn't have a motor, or anything else for that mater. It's pretty much just the wood. If I decided to make a project of it and piece it together, are the later Vic II parts compatible with the humpback version, or do I need a special motor, back bracket, etc...?

Re: Vic II Humpback Parts Compatibility
The back bracket, tone arm etc. are interchangeable between the regular Victor II and the Humpback II. The flat mounting plate inside the case for the back bracket is different as the Humpback is curved not flat. Most all the hardware is interchangeable between the two machines. As far as the motor I don't remember off hand but I think it is interchangeable but the Humpback will have a slotted crank and the regular II will be screw on crank.

Thanks for the info - luckily the mounting plate is one of the few parts that came with it!

Most humpback II's have the early double cut (not quad) spiral 1 spring motor and use a screw on crank.

Does your Victor II case have a tag with an S/N? If your tag has a 2 instead of a II, and a 3 or 4 digit S/N, then you would have an early one that would use a slotted crank. If the tag says Vic II and a 5 digit S/N, then it would use a threaded crank.

Unfortunately it does not have the ID tag, the paper labels are nearly gone as well.

That makes it easy. A regular Victor II motor will work. They are common enough. Those early Victor II slotted crank motors are tough to find. You'll still will need the 10" cast iron turntable.
