Last of the cylinder record players....?

Post by Joe_DS »

I'm wondering if any of the members of this forum had one of these when they were a kid --

In 1971, I was 13, and "way too old" for this. (Doesn't mean I didn't want it.)

I couldn't find a video of the jukebox, but here's one of someone attempting to play the cylinder --

Very interesting. I have one just like it except mine has a little different design. It is red in color and has Disney characters on it and plays Disney songs. I never saw another until yours.

Hi Ken:

I never owned one, but I remembered seeing it in a couple of Christmas catalogs in the early 1970s, and did some checking online this morning, never expecting to find anything. I was surprised to find the web page about it.

I also found this at wishbook.web from the 1972 Sears Christmas Wish Book --

That wasn't exactly cheap for a toy; $17.66 in 1972 would buy what $100 buys today.

Yes definitely would be last of cylinder players. While considered a toy it was a phonograph and not cheap at that.

Being in the service stationed in Germany at the time, I missed knowing about these completely. Interesting. How was the sound quality?

Wow, That's expensive   For that kind of money, I can get a real cylinder phonograph.

That's an eBay store seller. I never put their prices in reality. Seems like any idiot who sells stuff on eBay out of a store jacks their prices up to at least 4 times the actual value....if not more.
They also RARELY if EVER sell those items and get insulted if you ask them to take a reasonable offer. I've seen the same item for sale for YEARS from the same seller and they NEVER lower the asking price.
I believe their motto is "some sucker will buy it".
