I didn't mention that you can resurface the pot metal bearing. It's a temporary fix until the old bearing swells again. I don't recommend this. Jerry

Don't think that would have worked in this case. Much of the bearing came out in little pieces when the shaft came out. Cliff

Believe it or not, the best thing I have found for a stubborn frozen mandrel--especially in a home--is to do the following: motor needs to be taken off and bedplate removed from motor board. Then just stick the bedplate in a plastic grocery bag and stick the whole thing in the freezer for a good 24 hours at a minimum! I guess you could put the whole phonograph, minus the lid, in the freezer--if you have the room! This has worked every time for me--except when I was impatient and didn't leave it in long enough. The swollen bearing will slightly shrink making removal easy! Try this next time and see if it works for you.
