Post by Tpapp54321 »

One of the adjustment screws on my c-250 governor assembly is almost completely stripped and I hove NO idea on how to gent it out. So is there a way to get this screw out?

No, it's totally impossible. Just teasing. But, if it's almost totally stripped isn't it ready to just about fall out? You can try unscrewing it, as normal, while also pulling on it with perhaps the jaws of a needle nose plier, or any other item that can be put under the head in order to pull at it.

If there is enough of the head protruding, you might be able to cut a new slot with a fine hacksaw blade: after which you might get some penetrating oil into the screw and unscrew it.

If there is not enough head to cut a new slot, you may have to drill into the old screw and use a screw extractor (if you can find one in the right size)…

George Vollema is always a good source for parts, and there are other folks in the Links section who may have similar resources.

If you are able to remove the entire governor, I suggest you take it to a music store and ask the musical instrument repair technician to take a look at it. I had a friend in the business and he provided me with some special tools for removing stripped screws. No doubt your local guy will be able to help you.

Small suggestion but if you are going to try to ease the screw out with a pair of needle nosed pliers you might want to soak the screw and the governor end in penetrating oil for a couple of days first. This should help when you start unscrewing. Also unscrew a little then screw it back again - repeating this process should release the screw and you should get it out ok.

Good luck!

I have had this happen. I just used my Dremel, and cut a slot on the screw?
