Here's just a few photos from Union. I only took a few . . . sorry!
Beautiful A-290 marquetry inlay DD. $5900
Solid brass tinfoil replica in fitted case (already sold/price unavailable):
Nickel-plated 'Triumph' under glass in rotating false-drawer cylinder cabinet with glass horn (if you have to ask you can't afford it):
This is the one I would have given my left *** for -- an absolutely gorgeous Pooley flat-top VTLA with all original paperwork and provenance --- in cherry! s/n 170-something. $9500 (gasp!)
After seeing this, I just quit taking pictures. My heart couldn't take it anymore. What do you think, Zeppy?

Re: Leaving for Union tomorrow
are you sure that flat top vtla hasn't been refinished? it looks a bit light... and is that a burn mark on the lid?
those are nice machines but, wow, those prices are high, especially for that marquetry edison (almost $6000)... were things of this nature actually selling there, or were they more the highlight, show-off pieces? were there actually more moderately priced machines there as well? just curious.

John M., it was nice to see you again. Sometime when we're not in a rush Ken I will stop by & check out your new phono museum!!
We had a great time at the show as usual. When we get back home tomorrow evening I'll post my pictures. There were plenty of items in all price ranges. Beside the Pooley that John M posted, there was another that was in the mid $5,000 range (will post pix of it). I don't know if it came w/ any paper work like the one John saw. I didn't ask because that machine was way out of my price range anyway.

The other VTLA belongs to Kurt Nauck. It was very nice, too, but had a couple of issues like a missing crank escutcheon, and the finish had powdered in a couple of spots where the doors vibrated against the cabinet in transit. It was $5K.3victrolas wrote:John M., it was nice to see you again. Sometime when we're not in a rush Ken I will stop by & check out your new phono museum!!

The one at the Union show looks light because it is not mahogany, but rather, American cherry. I wasn't aware that that wood was used, but there it was! There is a dark stain on the lid, not a burn. Outside of that, she's cherry! lol!
Those high ticket items had not moved before I left (1:30pm on Friday), but Saturday is when a lot of things move because no one wants to haul them home. The inlaid DD was really beautiful in real life!
The 'bargain' of the show was a mahogany A-100 DD with reproducer (no stylus), kind of rough with no grill and a broken spring . . . $25! It was still sitting there when I left.

And who can blame you! It's a beautiful & rare machine.
There's no reason such a machine isn't obtainable either. When you're young, set your goals & work toward them, and there's no reason you won't get what you want. And if flipping burgers after school or even cleaning dunnies helps you achieve your goals, then there's nothing wrong or shameful in that.
You might be lucky like I was too, and have parents who won't mind helping you out when they see you're willing to work hard for something you really want badly enough

I think most parents would rather see their kids spending/investing money in something worthwhile, rather than wasting it on fast women & fast cars lol.

Thanks again, and wish me luck,
