Dating Edison BAs and DDs

I am sorting out some Edison BAs to sell on ebay and just wondered if someone could point me in the direction of a good source for dating both BAs and Edison DD's. The one I want to date in particular is BA 5199 which is "When the red red robin comes bob bob bobbing along" sung by Frank Braidwood (billed as the cowboy baritone!)

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a good source for releasing dates of BA's. Edison Blue Amberol Recordings 1912-1914 and Edison Blue Amberol Recordings 1915-1929 by Ronald Dethlefson. There is alot of other interesting stuff about BA's in these books except for releasing dates.
I don't know any source for DD's.
I'll be happy to date the Blue Amberols if send me the numbers.

You can date all DD's using the Truesound online discography.

You'll also find a list of BA no's that were dubbed from DD there, but they can be a bit hard to find unless you use the search feature properly.
There is also a separate section here for 2 & 4 min Edison wax cylinders, & for Edison Bell cylinders.

Another thing I do at times is use the University of CA site to search either the title, or by finding catalogue numbers that are close to what you're looking for.

I use the spreadsheet mostly for Edison cylinders too and mostly find what I am looking for. In many cases you have to search by number as list will only contain the original name which is in several cases not English.

Shane, I prefer the Dethlefson books about Blue Amberol's when it comes to finding the dates, I think it have more system than the Truesound online discography.
The cylinder preservation site have a better system than the Truesound online discography IMHO, but they don't have a complete list of all the BA's that was released.

Do they contain recording &/or release dates for the British series?
I can never seem to find info on anything but the American releases.

I looked trough the books and I can't find any information on the British series, but the reprints of the original monthly supplements in the second book contains some European releases.
The books contains a lot of other great information, original record slips, picture of Edison artists (many I didn't knew there existed photos of) a special article by Jim Walsh which is incredibly interesting and lots of other info.
I got the books last Christmas and they are among the best Christmas presents I have received.

I really like the Dethlefson books and I own both of them. It totally great to have the copies of the slips. Nevertheless I only use the Truesound list frequently. Just a click on the file, OpenOffice starts within a few seconds, I type in the record number and get everything instantly.
As far as I know, the book will give the release date while the list always claims the recording date which is usually several month prior to the date of release. Therefore, a record in a January or February catalog of 1906 is normally a recording made in 1905. Both, the books and the list have their special advantages.
