Channel rim brown wax? Date?

Post by Timo Gramophone »

Hello everybody,

I recently bought a cylinder suitcase. It contained around 7 brown wax cylinders. My question is, i discovered there were two channel rim cylinders. I played them, one sounded like the "Washington Post march". At the end, there was, i think, a home recording. I wonder, how old are these? I know only one company that made channel rim cylinders, and that is North American Phonograph Co. Would this mean i have two NAPCO cylinders?

Thanks in advance,

-Timo

As far as I can tell from the Compendium, the 'channel rim' is exclusive to North American cylinders - with the exception of an imitation made for John English for Columbia around 1895 (which may be even rarer than original NAPC cylinders)…
