Horn painting- how do you do thin stripes?

I've got a horn that needs thin gold stripes along the seams. What are your preferred techniques for doing it? Also- are there any suggestions for a really good yellow gold paint? Most of the available stuff is a brownish bronze.

Try Sheffield Antique Gold Leaf. 1718 Goldleaf Superlite Metallic is the same color of gold as found on painted Victor tone arms. I found it locally in a hardware store. The Company website. UPC : 0 88289 11719 0

Thanks, but I think that would have to be applied absolutely flat to work & this horn won't allow it.

I use 3-M ⅛" wide gold metallic auto stripe tape. The gold is the right color and doesn't have metal flake in it. It's a solid gold color. If you go this route, specifically use the 3-M brand. The adhesive is much more superior than other brands. It's very easy to use. Peel a little of the backing and stick to the horn. Then peel a little at a time until the stripe is completed. Do not stretch the tape. When completed, rub the tape using your finger. It is low profile and fits perfectly in the seams. My first horn I did this way was for my Edison Fireside horn. That was 24 years ago, and is holding up great. To tone the gold, I paint a thin stripe of Bulls-eye orange shellack, and it ages the stripes perfectly.

how do you do thin stripes?...lots of practice!

My father had an old friend who used to work at Ford in the 1930's, he was ancient when I met him as a kid. He could however draw a very long straight thin pinstripe as this had been his job at Ford.

This one may be even better as one sees how the painter puts a tape on the tank as a finger guide. Has anyone had a horn pinstriped by a car/motorcycle detailer. May be a cost issue?
