Victor Special Record

Post by walt3260 »

I have a Victor Special Record number 40143-1. It has Annie Laurie andElsie W Chaney as artists. I would like to find out anything about it.

If you had the money you could go to the Victor studio and make a private record. Yours was made on October 3rd 1927, I can't find anything online about the singer but the pianist was LeRoy Shield who would go on to an interesting career as a composer. This record did not appear in the Victor catalog.

It would appear she is buried in Maryland.

That's an understatement! As far as I'm concerned, he must have a special place reserved in the Hollywood musical pantheon just for composing "Good Old Days", the theme song for the "Our Gang" films. The big library of Hal Roach comedies (Our Gang, Laurel & Hardy, etc.) wouldn't be the same without his contributions.

My cell phone ringtone for the past five years :D (I made it from a track on a CD by The Beau Hunks performing the music from the Our Gang comedies)

He also had a very substantial career as an NBC Radio music director, under the name Roy Shield.

I want to thank you all for responding. The information was interesting to say the least. I have in that same album 8 other recordings as follows:
By Fritz Kreisler the violinist; Rondino, Old Folks at Home, Songs My Mother Taught Me, Gypsy Serenade, Nobody knows the trouble I've Seen, Chanson Indoue.
By Otto Goritz; Fidelio
Alma Gluck; Lo Here the Gentle Lark
If these are of any value to someone, let me know. They are part of a box of old recordings that were left to me and are in excellent condition.
