So I got this amberola 50 today. I cranked it and the mandrel spun. I walk away then back to it and now when I crank it the handle wants to spin backwards. I took it apart and see the end of the spring that is wound on the crankshaft is bent out of the hole in the locking pawl, that stops the handle from spinning backwards I presume. I don't see the actual piece that goes into the gear teeth. Is there one? Does someone have a picture of what this is supposed to look like? This is my frist amberola. I can't find a parts breakdown pdf also. If someone can enlighten me please. Thanks a million.

I bent the spring and got it back into the hole in the pawl but it seems like there's something that should be on the other side of the pawl and it looks like something may have broken off.

I see a pic on pg 31 of the compleat talking machine book although it says that one is a diamond disc. Are they the same pawl? Anyhow, I need one of these. Anybody have one?

Hi Steve,
I didn't want to pull the motor out to get a picture so I tried to take one from the front with the grill off- Hope this helps.

George Vollema maybe?
Probably wouldn't hurt to ask here in the 'Yankee Trader' section too.
Good luck, hope you find it.

If you have a Dremel tool you could even try making one out of thick sheet metal- might be worth a try if all else fails.

The Amberola 75 uses the same piece.
I'm not sure if the Amberola 30 does though since its a single spring motor. It might.
