Wanted: Fumed Oak Lid for Victrola XI

Post by Couch Potato »

Any one have a fumed oak lid for a Victrola XI they be willing to sell? The short one that goes with later serial numbers in this case VV-XI-A 447025(Type M from about 1918). As you can see in the picture I have what is otherwise a relatively nice machine less a lid that I picked up. The lid shown to the left is a tall one from the earlier XI's. Was going to use it but can't get enough the old poly someone inflected on it off so it can be fumed and stained to match. Thus the interest in the correct lid with hopefully at least the inside decal and such still intact.

That machine looks like regular golden oak to me. The lid is actually closer to the light, almost blonde color of fumed oak.

See George P's photos in this thread:

Perhaps, I remember that thread also and found it interesting. The base I have is as seen in the picture. There does not seem to be a shellac finish on it so golden oak may be what it is with perhaps a past wax finish. The inside of of the doors are lighter than all the exposed surfaces. I suspect the person I got it from probably lost the lid as a result of putting it in the back of a pickup truck in the wrong direction. How many times has that happened!
