I only knew Bob from emailing him over the last few years with questions about certain Victor machines that I had purchased. He was always happy to help and was genuinely interested in what I had purchased. We have lost a true wealth of knowledge. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.

So sorry to hear of this. I didn't know Bob personally but have been to his web site many times marveling at all the beautiful machines. RIP Bob.

Bob Johnson was one of the finest individuals in this hobby. I still have a copy of a rather lengthy e-mail that Bob sent me in response to a question about a Sonora phonograph about 10 years ago when I first started collecting. He not only answered my question, but also gave me a detailed history of the company. His enthusiasm was contagious.

Several years ago, a collector friend and I had the unique opportunity to tour the Sanfilippo collection with Bob & Karen. Bob was a true gentleman with an incomparable knowledge and love of antique phonographs. He will be sadly missed.

I am very saddened to hear of Bob's passing. I met him at several shows and auctions and was always friendly and interested in what machines I was looking for - even providing sage advice.

His passing must have been very sudden as it is only a number of weeks ago that he took time from his family and boat to provide me with some photos of a Columbia Grand (grand piano style) which he has several of. He was full of advice when he heard that I was attempting to restore a Columbia.

Best wishes and my thoughts are with his wife and family

Bruce
