Interesting: mine has the speed control on the bedplate. I wonder when they changed that?

I picked this BC-34 up last evening since it was pretty close to my work place, and what a cream-puff, almost perfect cabinet with the original finish. A small burn mark on the left top that I think will work out with some careful elbow grease. Wood grille work is perfect but the thin silk is fraying and will need replacement as usual. The motor is super quiet and the unit easily plays both sides of a a standard DD record with one winding. No thumping or motor noise. Not a very loud machine but loud enough. VERY HEAVY. Came with grease and a record duster as well as aprox. 30+ decent DD's and a big box of cataloged regular 10" 78 records. My question to you all is the buttons for the record size (?) and how they actually work / function - as well as speed control adjustment. (tool needed?) I think the machine may be running a wee bit fast so it will need to be adjusted some how.

Brian -

Glad you got it, and that it was a nice machine.

It is the sort of thing I would have been interested in, in terms of condition, etc. BUT...

The wife says I have "too many damned Victrolas as it is"... and space is an issue.

Please share some photos / video of it in action when you can !

Nice looking machine! Rebuild the repro and it will be like new.

There was a recent thread about the record size buttons. You should be able to find it easily.

The speed control is under the upper left corner of the bedplate, out of easy reach. Get under there with a flashlight (and perhaps a mirror) and you'll see what you need to do. Use a strobe disc to set the machine at 80 RPM.

Interesting fact - this machine has never left Allentown Pa. (except now that I own it and took it back to NW New Jersey) I just noticed the name on the record duster and the original payment book: F. Bowman & Son 944 Hamilton Street Allentown Pa. How cool is that?

Hi Briankeith. Great that that machine ended up with you.

As was noted, I did start a thread a few weeks ago about "Installing Edison Long Play mechanisms"--and in connection with that I asked about the 10" and 12" buttons. "barnettrp21122" replied very helpfully with photos. Check out this string:

Here is the Edison Baby Console all cleaned up, adjusted, greased, and sitting in it's brand new home. (after much much much much debate with the wifey-poo, and a very expensive dinner ++++ some) I'm debating myself on wheather to replace the original and slighly frayed silky grille cloth with reproduction cloth or just leave it be all Edison original. It will probably get worse with time, yes? Any good source for this goldish silky material out there that at lease comes close??

Personally I'd leave the cloth. I've had a C19 Chippendale with the cloth in similar slightly tattered condition for several years and it has not deteriorated further. Very nice, clean looking original machine you have there.

For 10" records, push the 10 down with one finger while you swing the arm to the left. The reproducer will pivot over to the beginning of the record and stop. Lower the reproducer as normally. Same process for 12".
