There is nothing wrong about having vintage radios at phonograph shows. Or vintage fans or telephones. The upcoming Union show will have examples of these and are even listed in the advertising. It just shows that as collectors we have diverse and parallel interests. That's my four cents worth.

I wonder whether some of the current popular shows on television are spawning interest in phonographs with our younger generations. Shows such as "Board Walk Empire," and "Downton Abbey" and their musical themes and scenes showing a phonograph could be helping the cause.

might anyone know who was selling that schoolhouse machine at the wayne show this past weekend?

I don't know the name of the dealer who was selling the Schoolhouse but I can tell you that he was asking $3700.00 for it. I've been looking for one myself but that was just to high. The condition was good but I've seen ones much nicer. It also looked just like the one that sold at the Carden Family Auction in NY last month for $1900.00. I've been offered a few by people on the forum for between $2000 and $2500. Hope that helps you.

-I agree. I have been to several 1920s themed parties to play my phonograph and both were influenced by these shows. I just hope it's not a passing trend, perhaps more interest will develope as we hit the 2020s!

I worry that latest Gatsby film may have ruined it slightly though by incorporating modern hippity-hop music into the 1920s setting. I was at a Gatsby themed party last year and they started playing rock music like in the film, very disappointing.

it does help. thank you. they definitely seem to be out there. and I remembered the price of the one at wayne this time, I just never found out who was selling it. it was a nice example but definitely not perfect - I'm pretty sure that at least the horn was refinished, and it had a not so good reproduction decal (the large victrola banner beneath the lid also was pretty beat). I've had two in the past, extremely nice totally original ones, but sold one and then the other during different moves and each time regretted it afterward.

Years ago when I started collecting, a Victor School Machine and a Vic VI were roughly the same price. Now a school model seems to be worth 60% of the Vic VI. Jerry

I'm thankful that I didn't make it into anyone's photos. Thankful, because I typically get caught in some awkward pose, or making some terribly askew face.
