I want the Edison Amberola IV shown in a trade paper's pic of Buffalo dealer Neal Clark & Neal, circa 1913. It was later painted-out, when Victor used the same photo in their own mag.

Well, considering the first one sold for nearly $2000, I wouldn't say that either of these are inexpensive, but apparently some can afford to pay that much for a scarce instrument. I'm merely pointing out that the second one has the potential to cost less.
I never said they were a "score", just an opportunity.
Best,
Fran

agreed, but apparently not quite the opportunity apparently found by the seller of the first one (that sold on ebay for $2000) at that recent Schlick/Donley auction for less than $400.

My two cents: I have a decent B60 and the much harder to find metal cabinet A60. They are both really hard to find machines worth the money due to how scare they both are. I traveled to Canada in 2007 to pick up my A60 since it is so rare that I refused to have it shipped. So in my opinion, and only my opinion, the price was high but fair for such a nice clean working rare machine. When was the last time an A60 metal cabinet came up on EBay or at a show in top notch playing condition for less then $1000 ?? Rare is rare. We aint' talking about a Victor VV-IV now are we

Would you be willing to do a "featured phonograph" post with your A-60? The last time I saw one was at a Union show six years ago, and haven't seen one since. I didn't know they existed until I saw an example at Union!

Sure Garret but all my smaller table-top machines are boxed up in storage because my house is getting a big make-over $$$$

Indeed a nice machine, my B-19 will have to do
Though not as rare, I sold a Edison P-1 portable, (blue) about a year and half ago for $475.00 on e-bay, I have never seen one since. Mine was in very good condition with no cracks in the reproducer and nice motor with good fibre gear. I find that if you wait it out, sometimes you may be that lucky buyer to win a auction at way lower than what one would expect.

I agree. It seems that the folks whom are spending "top dollar" on eBay have the ability to achieve instant gratification over sensibility
I'm not trying to be coy or insulting. I'm just trying to understand motive. I've been watching several dozen specific different types and models of "phonographs" and artifact very intently for 8 months now and I'm still amazed at the disparity of prices paid for some items that are nearly identical.
The first one I posted sold for very nearly $2000.00 and the second one for $1475.00 (including quoted shipping price).
Best,
Fran
