I guess the needle through the blob is s snug fit, to prevent (unwanted) buzzing ? :monkey:

Well, I tried a test using my Victrola XVII and I certainly could not hear any "real" difference. Mind you, I did not notice any impediments caused by this attachment.

Just want to add another ad from 1914 that shows a "fiber needle" version was also made available.
