The Edison Combination Radio Phonograph (C-2) that plays both Diamond Discs and Laterally cut needle-type records does not have a feed screw system. The horseshoe shoe pick up on a long arm is driven by the groove the same way a standard disc phonograph works.
The needle socket has an offset diamond stylus that transfers the vertical cut to a lateral motion into the pick up. In 1929 Edison's C-4 dropped the off set stylus and only played laterally cut records
