Is this radio is a Victor factory addition?- it looks like someone just pushed a set into the record compartment.
Correct.

Discussed in this thread.

Seems as if someone stripped out the original radio and banged in a table set. Too bad- it's nice to see these early combos with their period radio components, even when they don't function. Still, someone might pay 2-3 hundred if the reproducer isn't trashed.

I'm not an expert, but the horn elbow looks suspiciously like it came off a crapophone.

The Alhambra I in Austin is definitely a puzzler. The radio looks like an early Philco, but why would someone do this kind of retrofit? If this happened back in the 30's, wouldn't it have made more sense to just have the radio AND the Victrola, and keep them in their seperate cabinets? If this was done later, like in the 60's or 70's, it definitely would have been better to leave them both in their original condition, especially if the Alhambra I still had an original (even if non-functioning) radio.

This is a pretty ornate cabinet.

I haven't seen many of these.

Needs a lot of work/parts, but for $50...

Another cheap one at only $75.

The Victor Revere aka VV-14-1 is certainly a unique machine... and most people say it sounds good.

Some info at this thread...

I don't typically go for Columbia table top phonos, but I think this is a pretty attractive combo. Price seems good too.

Those Columbias's with doors instead of louvers are much less common- with a base cabinet that's a very good buy, even with motor problems.

AFter seeing that one, in worse shape than mine for $1,000, I feel pretty good about my purchase 8-)
