The seller accepted my request for a $75.00 partial refund. I'm content, though I probably won't buy anything else from this seller.

Sorry hear of the op's misfortune on this. It is of course a cautionary tale to folks who do not have that much experience with ebay. Even with my
own membership of ebay almost since they started , its still a gamble as to whether the seller knows how to or understands how to or cares about suitable packaging to protect in transit. I'm convinced that some sellers are unfortunately really not bothered , some have limited experience in packing stuff and really do not understand how parcels get treated by mail services . I spent almost 25 years working for a national parcel delivery company here in the UK so I know how stuff gets thrown around etc in the sorting processes -- and believe me , those companies have no interest whatsoever if stuff gets broken / damaged etc in transit and will most times try to " wriggle out " of paying compensation with their long winded claim processes. Bottom line is , if you can collect the item yourself , that's the way to go , or if that is not an option, look at seller's feedback for items of a nature that require careful packing . Unfortunately , buying online will always involve a risk to some extent and this factor should be borne in mind. Regards Dulcetto

The initial inspection by the post office wasn't very encouraging. They said the damage was due to inadequate packing and their insurance doesn't cover damage caused by inadequate packaging.

Yeah, good luck on ever getting USPS to pay out on their insurance. I had bought a steel helmet at arrived having been skewered by a forklift. They said it wasn't their fault as it "wasn't packed well enough". What kind of packing will survive a forklift fork? None aside from heavy steel.

I have a motor for a xvi with a bad spring. It should have all the parts you need. Motor board too.

Clearly the terrible packing job is to blame. The seller really should give you a full refund.

The chances of fragile items damaged by poor packing by unqualified eBAY sellers has got to be pretty high, 1 iin 5 or at least 1 in 10 based on my experience.

USPS lost my package with a VINTAGE SONY TURNTABLE insured for $200.00 I filed a claim providing 3 actual sold listings on same item on EBAY @ $170+ each. They paid $25.00 on the claim and I appealed pointing out that the TT was Vintage and actual present value was $175.00 They denied the appeal claiming depreciation. Wonder what their depreciation would be on a Victor VI.
