Oh Mike,
So Sorry! These damn critters end up owning the place without even trying. Here is our Reno, he is an almost 11 year old Flat Coated Retriever. We will say a prayer for you and your buddy Oreo.

Here is Romeo showing his opinion of modern recording technology. This was taken six years ago, but he is still on excellent form. He would occasionally sit on my H.M.V. 109 before I moved it into the bedroom.

In the background is an anonymous record-cabinet which holds fifty twelve-inch discs, each on its own shelf, with a drawer for cylinders above.

It's always saddening to lose a family member. So sorry to hear of his passing. We can relate to your grief as we lost our own recently and shortly after that his best friend followed him to animal heaven. This was a dog and cat partnership that was as powerful a bond as brother and sister could get.
Cheers, Russie

Thanks everyone for the kind words and condolences (both on the forum and private messages) as well as the pics. I really needed that and it is appreciated.

I'm not looking to replace Oreo as nothing could ever do that. All rescues and shelters are closed to the public right now because of the CV outbreak. Many animals are with fosters with the staff only doing emergencies. I've only ever adopted. I believe there are too many animals at rescues that need a loving home. Always adopt. Never shop.

Keep the pictures of your pets (any pets) and machines coming. They really help me during this time.

Mike

You can't replace- dogs are all special in their own way. Yes, rescues are the best IMO.

Ran into a friend today, that lost there dog a few months back and said they are going to pick-up their rescue on Saturday, here in NJ, I guess they are letting you do it (really surprised). Our dog went to the vet and we waited in the car---they came out and got him and when done ---took him back out to the car. No one was allowed in the building. Best of luck with your new personality, when he comes to share you're life with you.

Finally photographed one of my cats - Lucy - with a phonograph. They don't like to pose with my machines for whatever reason. I call it "Her Master's Voice", even though it obviously is a Zonophone.

Last year I lost my best friend Pisco. We grew up together, and up till that point I had never lived without him, we are roughly the same age. When he was younger he was diagnosed with cancer, and was said to not live past the age of 9. Hes died at almost 17

Lucifer P Cat.JPG
This picture turned up today when I was cleaning out the garage. It goes back a while--that's Lucifer, my family cat when I was an adolescent in the 1970s. Mom and Dad had the idea of taking his picture trying to get into the horn of my Edison Standard (let's just say I wasn't part of the "in" crowd at my high school--most of the boys my age collected "conquests"; I collected phonographs and antique records), and to that end, after setting up the shot, fried up some bacon and put a little in the throat of the horn to attract the cat. They had an awful time getting the shot--Lucifer was just too fast for them. By the time Mom had put a piece of bacon in the horn and stepped back out of the way, the cat had shot into the horn, grabbed the prize, and dashed away again before Dad could press the shutter release. Then they tried again, with the same results, and again, and again.... By the end of the session, that was one well-fed, contented cat!

Dad had the photo blown up to 20" by 30" and mounted on some sort of dry mount board, and he made a frame for it himself; it hung in my various abodes--dorm rooms, apartments, what have you--for years, until the framing warped and bubbles started forming under the picture, at which point I finally retired it as no longer festive. Today, however, I rehung it--Mom, Dad, and Lucifer are now all long gone, and the indignities time visited on it seem less important than the memories it brings back.

That said, too bad nobody thought to close the Standard's end gate....

[edit] I should add that I had my own cat problems when taking the above photo; Oliver, my current cat, decided to get into the picture himself by walking past just as I fired the shutter. Cats!
