I know this is off topic here, but I didn't know where else to post this. I wanted everyone to know about my Nipper.
His name is Oreo and I got him from the Humane Society 13 years ago. At this time I wasn't interested in phonographs yet otherwise his name would have been Nipper. He had the perfect head tilt and looked just like the real Nipper. I often thought he might be a descendant of him.
I had to say bye to him yesterday. He was 16 years old in February and he had just gotten old. His little hips were full of arteritis and rather than wait until they totally gave out and he collapsed, we decided to send him off with his dignity. We could tell in his walk the past couple months that he was feeling discomfort and first thing after a nap were bad and getting worse. Other problems were only adding to his troubles.
I'll miss my little Oreo cookie. He brought a lot of great memories and times to my life. I don't know if I rescued him or he rescued me but we made each others lives better.
To help bring a smile back to my face I'd like to ask that you post a picture of your pet with your collection. I've added a couple to start.
Mike

Re: OT: MY REAL LIFE NIPPER HAS LEFT ME
Wow- nearly 16 is a damn good run... which really is just an observation and nothing helpful. Condolences on going through the only real downside of being owned by a pup. I have two lil' Nippers- one is a Boston Terrier/ pit named Billy and the other is a BT/ Corgi (we think) named Ollie. Ollie was a new addition at Christmas time and will be a year old in June; Billy is 7 and has been with us 6 years. Both were rescues.
I will try to post some pics if I can catch them being still long enough... it's a rare sunny morning in Oregon and the dog door is flapping nonstop with in and out playtime.
There's always another pup in a cage needing a hole in someone's heart to fill... give yourself time first, though. We got Billy six weeks after our old girl Freckles passed on... it was really too soon but Billy needed a home badly and he is a great guy- we were just conflicted for a few days at first.
Hang in there, friend!

Billy is the black and white and Ollie is the brindle and white Nipper. They are hanging out on their bean bag bed in the room where my modest phono collection and huge record collection live. They are definitely not posers so this is as close as we can get for now.

My deepest condolences to you. As a funeral director and animal lover, I know all too well how emotional this is for you. Hang in there and cherish those memories! Don't think of just serious moments, think about the strange or funny things he would do! This will bring a smile to you and maybe get a few laughs...
Pets are special. Again, hang in there...

Re: OT: MY REAL LIFE NIPPER HAS LEFT ME
Oh, I am sorry. I can only quote my daughter's maxim for 2020: "This year sucks."
You asked for photos. Here's our Oliver, now about 15, when he was still young enough to jump up on it (he's had his own issues with arthritis and got hip surgery for same) sitting on my Edisonic Schubert next to my Victor V, together with assorted cameras that were in service taking photos of Christmas morning that year.
And here he is after checking out a big collection of records I bought earlier that year. I am *still* cataloguing the things and sorting out dupes better than a decade later.

Mike,
So sorry to hear of your loss. We went through this 5 ½ years ago, and I still get a little misty when I remember the day we had to put him down. A good friend on this board posted this:

Time heals, but you'll never forget Oreo, and that too is a blessing. You did the right thing keeping him from becoming more uncomfortable.
These darn pups...
Best wishes to you,
George P.

Dogs are a great blessing. Your Oreo must have been quite a critter. The loss is very real, but this too shall pass. My sincere condolences.

Hello Mike, I am sorry for your loss, pets can really bring a lot of joy into ones life. Here is a photo of our three smallest family members, Fancy Pants is 11, Shelby is 10, she and Fancy are half sisters, then there is the youngster Lacie aka (Little Bear) she is 4, she has been good for the two older ones enticing them to play and get a little exercise.
