I can't imagine it actually sold. Its probably shill bidding, where someone they know bids up the bid. Watch... it will be relisted. I just saw this happen not long ago with a victor V.

If it was shill bidding wouldn't the seller owe ebay fees for $6,100.00
And it came with only an "H" reproducer???? Maybe the buyer thought that it included all those reproducers mentioned C, B, S or K reproducer

That's not even the correct cygnet for a Standard. That's an eleven panel for a Triumph. Jerry

Even though it's the wrong horn, the 11 panel one is more desirable and rarer. That dose not cause the price to be that out of line.

agreed. seems common enough with some sellers, although it was much easier to determine for sure when buyers' id's were fully disclosed (some sellers had numerous id's or friends with identifiable id's that would regularly appear competing against one another while driving up the price).USlakeside wrote:I can't imagine it actually sold. and so far as ebay fees, you'd probably just have to cancel the transaction between seller and "buyer" afterward.

Maybe its just me, but I get concerned if the picture looks so perfect with
the professional white background, etc. It looks like someone scanned it from
a magazine or ripped off the image from some other source.

Re: Edison Standard with Cygnet, nice but sold for $6100!
I have watched this seller's items for a long time now and have even purchased from him in the past. He is extremely knowledgeable about anything and everything related to early phonographs and radios. His descriptions are consistent and although a bit lengthy, not too over the top. His feedback speaks for his honesty and shipping ability. I was leery of his listings when I first started watching him as well in part due to the professional look. I thought maybe he used photo editing software or something. But after watching for over a year now and reading his feedback, he genuinely sells high end items in incredible condition. I was so amazed at his prices realized that I once calculated a few months total of his sales and it equated to something like $400,000 a year. He sells on average, about 5 items a week and always starts his auctions on Sunday evenings during the "prime time" hours. So here is my question. He has been selling 5-10 items a week for years, most of which are near mint and are all very collectible. WHERE THE HECK IS HE GETTING HIS ITEMS??
As for the Standard, I haven't a clue why that went through the roof. It was in good condition, but $6100!!?? That's crazy!

Wrong for USA, but correct for Australia. All models came with an 11 panel cygnet here, and they were offered "from the factory" in a variety of colours. The 10 panel cygnet was never sold here.Jerry B. wrote:That's not even the correct cygnet for a Standard. That's an eleven panel for a Triumph. Jerry
