Flotow set the opera in England during the reign of Queen Anne c.1710, so why should some attention seeking producer think himself cleverer than the composer and stage it in the late 19th Century?

When HMV began issuing their Red labels in double sided form it appeared on DB159.
Caruso re-recorded the aria on 15th April 1917 (Matrix C-3100-2).
Confusingly Victor issued it with the same 88001 catalogue number as the 1906 version. It was not issued in the UK.
When Victor and HMV re-issued some Caruso titles with superimposed electrically recorded orchestral accompaniment the 1917 M'appari was chosen. It was issued in 1932 as HMV DB1802 and Victor 7720.
I still do not understand why this lovely opera set in Tudor England is not available on DVD.
