Edison cylinder phonograph questions

I just noticed that on the piece of metal that appears to hold the stylus to the reproducer, it says "model C" - is that meaningful? Model C reproducer on a Model B phonograph?

Also it's loose and wiggles around (see attached video). Normal?

Yes, the Model C Reproducer was supplied on several styles of Edison Phonographs throughout Models A, B, C, and D. The weight absolutely should "wiggle around" in order to play properly.

To open up your Phonograph's cabinet, you would normally remove the crank first (but that's already done), then gently lift the front of the wooden frame that surrounds the mechanism.

Well whaddya know, a crank was in the cabinet! Additional pics of the mechanism in case you see anything that needs attention. To me it all looks really clean and in good shape.

Congrats, and well done! And the video had a surprise in store: I have that cylinder, too; it was one of the first ones I got with my own Standard B, back when I first got into cylinders. Nice bit of nostalgia, that. Do enjoy!

You'll probably want to have the reproducer rebuilt, for best sound. Wyatt Markus is a great person to do that: he can replace the gaskets, check the stylus (or replace it if needed), at very reasonable rates.

You should crank these until the motor starts resisting.
