First, a big thank you to Larry Crandall and John Duffy for providing me with the required hardware to put the Victor IV case back into good working order with original parts. Even the screws that Larry provided were the correct screws and went into their appropriate holes with no cutting of new threads.
Second, some pictures are in order. I spent the morning dropping the motor and removing the lid. Taking the lid off was a bit more delicate operation than you might think. You see, the good workers at Victor ca. 1912 screwed the hinges in place while the shellac was still wet. And they applied a lot to the underside of the lid. I carefully applied some ethanol with a small brush around and under the hinges in order to loosen the shellac, otherwise I ran the risk of splintering the wood if I simply knocked out the hinges with a mallet. The mortises were very precisely cut, and the hinges fit very tightly. Having removed the hinges and screws I soaked them in the ethanol to remove the hardened shellac. After that, I put everything back together, which you know may see in the three attached photos.
