The 2-55 portable was made in huge numbers (329,100 between 1928-1930) as recorded in the Victor Meeting notes and Bob Baumbach’s Victor Data Book so it is likely that small changes were made to speed production. Bob lists three different 2-55 types. The Patent contains highly detailed engineering drawings that may assist your investigation. Use the patent number to locate the additional pages. Much can be learned by investigating patents, this is often a good avenue for research that is often overlooked by collectors.

Below the title page for the Patent you will see two pages published by RCA-Victor in the early 1930’s. Notice that the Taper Tube assembly is sold complete so that may indicate the change to the riveted type. We’ll need to examine more examples. This is not a full parts listing, it only includes the parts that remained in the RCA’s inventory. The part numbers are RCA’s not Victor’s.
