It’s definitely hard to get a feel for an auction watching online that’s for sure, and usually there is good reason a machine goes for a lower price. The auction certainly had a lot of great Victors to choose from. Just wished I lived closer. I appreciate the hard work that goes into curating these auctions.
I would completely agree. Some of the machines weren’t as nice as they looked in the photos, however some were also much better. To be sure, some very good deals were had, particularly with the Victor machines. I thought prices as a whole were down. Even the stunning Brunswick Panatrope attributed to Valentino brought about half what I thought it would.
I have been very fortunate for the last 25 or so years to live about 45 minutes away, whether it was the old venue in Charlotte or the new one in Hastings. I rarely miss one, and they’re one of the highlights of the year for me. I always make it a point to thank Steve and all of the Stanton’s staff after it’s over. Those folks do a TREMENDOUS amount of work to put that auction on. I honestly don’t know how Steve’s voice holds out.

More than his voice holding out, I do not believe I have ever seen him take a restroom break during the course of an auction. I know I couldn't do it!

I was outbid on a nice red two part horn, for an Edison Fireside.
There were three Columbia AB McDonald concert phonographs that I thought were pretty good but, I’m sure I would have been outbid on them. I would have paid $450.00 for one. Oh well, maybe some other time.
They used to sell for $1200. Just sayin'

Actually $450.00 was the opening bid, for two machines, the third was at $1,200.00 like you said.

Yes, Steve Stanton was on his feet with rapid fire auctioneering from 9:00AM to 2:11PM without a single break!
