I'm 98% sure this is a Victrola with a Silvertone tonearm/motorboard.

He must have inscribed it from the grave!

"THOMAS EDISON VOICE WRITER - $1000 (MECHANICVILLE)

I have a Thomas Edison Voice Writer for Sale inscribed by him. Includes everything shown in pictures. Was priced out at over $2000 couple years ago, ready to go for 1800 or reasonable offers will be considered. I am having someone else manage the craigslist ad for me but you can call me at 518-664-1735"

"Edison Phonograph

This is a Thomas Edison Home Model B from what I have read
and seen at antique places.
It needs some work.
The handle crank which I have, has an internal portion that is worn , so I
have used a small 5/16" socket, and extension through the box for a crank,
to wind the motor, which does wind up, and it runs for a long time, and the lever
to turn it on and off works well. The threaded steel follower is rusty half the follower.
The three small governor weights had a thin metal strap that deteriorated
over 100 years and fell off when I ran the motor, but I have them for any re3storation.
It needs a belt, to drive the wax or plastic cylindrical records. I think it is a thin belt like found on a clothes dryer, or a round snake shaped belt found on some upright vacuum cleaners to rotate the brushes. I do not have a horn.
What you see is what you get, a rare look and feel for a Thomas Edison item. The label on the box is original and in good shape.
For its age, it looks pretty good, but will need expert attention. The wood is in excellent
shape, and the hinges are in excellent shape.
Pick-up at any store like Wal-Mar tis OK with me, anytime.
Shipping $50 anywhere in the continental U.S., includes insurance.
US Postal Money Order accepted only, purchased at any US post office.
I will cash the US Postal momney order at my post office to use towward shipping costs.
I do not ship to Africa,or Europe, and do not want any courier service people to
arrange delivery.
I will ship the phonograph immediately upon receipt and cashing of a
US Postal Money Order at the US post office.
I can call you, if you send me your phone number, and name, and a time to call you.

Wow, John. You know how to find the worst of the worst!

Here is my favorite line in the previous description:

"Pick-up at any store like Wal-Mar tis OK with me, anytime."

I think I counted 8 reasons that sentence is grammatically incorrect. I think the guy selling this must be one of the people pictured here:

(For the record, I like Walmart and am not knocking it at all!)

Someone should call him to find out the price. Was it listed anywhere?

Not the worst, but can you say "SUCKER!" ?

A great piece of nostalgia. I've bought the Victrola in Maryland in 1983 for $850.00. I replaced the spring in 2002. It needs a button handle for one door but they are about $3.00 and I have the website to get them from. Includes needles and many 77 records from the past. If you compare to others for sale, you will find that this one is in much better condition. It's a great conversation piece at get togethers. Priced to move. You can reach me at 757-421-9555 until 9PM. We are located about 1 mile north of the N.C. border off of the Chesapeake Expressway. Thanks for reading.

There are some nice looking Silvertones I must agree. Unfortunately I have the poor man's version
in oak. :(

Yeah, he spent way too much and now he is trying to recoup some losses with another ripoff price.

Sure, you can buy a crappy cabinet knob anywhere for $3. Try finding an original old stock one for $3 and you may have a hard time!
